Welcome to the Civil Engineering Department of CEC. It was established in the year 2014. Over the years the department has nurtured young minds to produce bright able civil engineers. Many of our faculty members and students are involved in research activities in various areas of civil engineering. The department is also very active in conducting conferences, workshops, short term seminars etc. The department has been constantly involved in a range of consultancy projects.
Civil engineering is a wide-ranging profession, including several specialized sub-disciplines, its history is linked to knowledge of structures, materials science, geography, geology, soils, hydrology, environment, mechanics and other fields. Rapid industrialization and urbanization has given birth to challenging construction of skyscrapers, flyovers, long span bridges, atomic power plants, gigantic industrial complexes etc. With continued technological advancements, the scope of the Civil Engineering has further broadened and diversified into new areas such as Computer Aided Design, Computer Aided Drafting, Offshore Technology, Earthquake Engineering, Robotic Construction, and Space Structures.
The departmental activities embrace Planning, Design, Construction and Management. The syllabus of the department have been tremendously augmented with many advanced courses.

When we hear the term ‘Civil Engineering,’ our eyes and ears usually do not give the anticipation as they do after hearing about new iPhones, cars, or artificial intelligence. Civil Engineering innovations have their greatest impacts on the quality of human lives. Buildings are the largest contributors to greenhouse gases. Civil Engineers make powerful buildings and other pivotal facilities which can make our life great. Traffic Engineering is also a part of the Civil Engineer’s job. Urbanization means we have less land, so we must go taller. Civil Engineers design tall buildings so that the building can be used in various ways, and thus with the quality of Civil Engineers, we can fight with urbanization effectively. We all crave to be residents of a smart planet. But to have one, we need smart cities, which would require smart buildings.

The Department, established to impart analytical and application skills in various fields of Civil Engineering, has been transforming youngsters into professionals. The students of Civil Engineering are exposed to various fields such as Structural Engineering, Construction Technology and Management, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and many more which enable the students to take up a professional career or higher education of their choice.
